Epcot’s Flower and Garden Festival kicked off today (4/21). As you walk into the park you are greeted by Donald and Daisy who are emerging from the tunnel of love. This year’s theme is Romance so more Disney couples are found all over. Plus there are 50 hidden hearts in the displays throughout the park. Today was also the premiere of the new Disney postage stamps which of course also have a romance theme. There was a kick off ceremony then you were able to purchase the new stamps and other collectibles with the stamps. There were plenty of postal workers handy to postmark your stamp products and even the artists that designed the stamps were available for autographs.
Once back out in the park I wandered around a bit to check out my favorite part of the festival – the topiaries! I really wish I could have some of these at my house. I was excited to see Tinker Bell’s Fairy Garden as a new addition but I was a little disappointed when I got over there. This is in the place where the dog gone maze had been the past few years (Imagination walkway). I was hoping it would be something really cute with lots of Disney fairies, but it turned out to be really just a play area for little kids. Tink was the only fairy represented in the garden, but that was my favorite of all the topiaries. Everything else is pretty much the same as other years. Minnie’s butterfly garden is back and is the same as last year – too crowded most of the time. The Flower Power Concerts will rock the America Gardens Theater each night. There is a different theme each weekend that will add a different little twist to the festival. I don’t have a green thumb so I pretty much skip all the special guests and their presentations but if that is something you like there are plenty to choose from.
The festival runs through June 11 so if you are visiting between now and then be sure to head to Epcot and take time to stop and smell the roses!
