ALASKA! I am lucky and fortunate. In just a few weeks I will be packing for a ten day adventure that will include a pre-cruise stay in Vancouver and a 7 night cruise on the Disney Wonder. I have truly enjoyed planning this adventure. I am traveling with three generations from age 7 to 70. I am planning a mix of port adventures. Some of which are with Disney, some I have booked with a local tour company and for some I am “winging it” (yes my husband does not like EVERYTHING to be planned ahead).
I am going to blog periodically about all of my experiences along the way. First, I would like to talk about a couple things that I think are different about an Alaska cruise compared to a more traditional Caribbean one.
Passports- They are required for this Alaska cruise because I am sailing out of Vancouver, Canada. We planned ahead and already have them in hand. No late rush fees for us! If you are getting your passports at a USPS save some money by getting the pictures taken and made at a local Walgreens.
Stateroom selection – I have sailed in all kinds of staterooms and while I enjoy a verandah it is not a requirement for me. This time I decided the verandah is a must. While Disney ships are a destination themselves I think for Alaska I will be focused on the views of the coastline and looking for wildlife. The days in Alaska are very long (early sunrise and late sunset) and I have visions of morning coffee on my verandah while the kids are making plans with the daily navigator. When sailing on a Disney Cruise you can get a discount if you book the next cruise while on board. I took advantage of this when I booked my Alaska trip and was pleased with the large savings.
I have many ideas for future posts during my travels and upon my return. I want to talk about Vancouver, packing for Alaska, port adventures, as well as the dynamics of traveling with three generations.
