Day 3 – High in the Skye
We left the city behind and headed for the Scottish Highlands.
Along the way we learned about the MacDonald clan, Bonny Prince Charlie, and the Jacobites. Our coach took us from the hustle and bustle of the city of Edinburgh out to the country and laid back life on Isle of Skye. Along the way we saw lots of beautiful site like mountains, hills, waterfalls, and a few rainbows. We stopped for lunch in Fort William for some lunch and then our next stop was the amazing Eilean Donan Castle. We were lucky to have the sun come out while we were visiting the castle. After the castle it was time to make our way to our home for the next 2 nights, the Cuillin Hills Hotel. We were greeted by the sound of bagpipes and a very welcoming staff. Before dinner we have a lesson on whiskey along with a tasting of 3 different whiskeys. Even though I really don’t like the taste I really did enjoy learning more about how it is made and what makes them different.
Day 4 – Coolin in the Quiraing
Today was all about the outdoors and amazing views. We hopped on our coach and went out to explore the Isle of Skye. We saw Old Man of Storr (a rock formation that looks like a man’s silhouette. We stopped and hopped off for some photos of the beautiful scenery with Old Man of Storr in the background. Our next stop was Kilt Rock, a rocky cliff with “pleated” sides. Then it was off to Brother’s Point and Quiraing where we embarked on a brisk hike that was so worth the effort for the breathtaking views. We had worked up a hunger so out next stop was lunch at the Flodigarry Hotel. The chef had whipped up a delicious lunch that hit the spot after our hike. Our day wasn’t over yet but it was time for a little more relaxing activity. Our next stop was the Isle of Skye Baking Company where we all got to try our hand at scone making. It was fun and tasty. We headed back to our hotel where we were treated to some Ceilidh Dancing. The girls preformed many of their traditional highland dancing and also some Gaelic songs. They even had a laugh as they tried to teach us to dance. If was a fun way to end this great day.
