Universal is calling 2012 An Extraordinary Year to be Here. It’s the 100th anniversary for Universal and they are celebrating with some new things at Universal Orlando. The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman received some new animation and effects, a new 3-D attraction with the Despicable Me characters will open, a new parade will roll out, and a new nighttime show will debut.
I was able to check out this new show and the parade last night. Believe it or not the park has never had a daily parade before now. The parade is cute but really aimed at the little kids. It has 4 main floats – Despicable Me, Spongebob, Hop, and Dora. The parade will stop a few times along the route and the characters will dance around.
The new night time show is a tribute to Universal’s 100 years of film-making history. It highlights some of the most fun, dramatic, awe-inspiring moments from Universal Picture’s most iconic films – shown in crystal-clear clarity on huge waterfall screens within the Universal Studios lagoon. The show takes you back through 100 years of heroes, horror, laughter, good versus evil and triumph. Morgan Freeman narrates the journey through time via some or your favorite movie scenes. It was hard to believe the clips were being shown on waterfall screens. Colorful fountains and fireworks are also part of the show. There are 3 of the large waterfall screens set up on the lagoon so there is plenty of space available to get a view of the show. I was right in the middle across the lagoon from the San Francisco area and thought this really was a great location. There are some splash zones pointed out by signs so if you don’t want to get wet while watching I would avoid those. I really enjoyed this show and think it is just what the park was missing.
