Greetings fellow Mouse Fans!
I am hijacking today's blog for a very personal reason. Today is We Are The Truth Day –
"We Are The Truth – an adoption blogger day: To ensure the world knows about every successful adoption, on Thursday, April 15, 2010 blog about your adoption or the adoption of someone you know.? It doesn't matter if your adoption is with Russia, domestic or otherwise international.? Let the world know your truth!"
Since today is also my son's 6th birthday, it seems only appropriate to tell his story. At least, some of it. We adopted Ryan in 2004 from South Korea. Born on April 15, 2004 in Seoul, Korea, Ryan was cared for during the first six months of his life by a doting Foster Family. He came home to us on October 14, 2004 happy, healthy and VERY well fed! (23.1 pounds at six months old!) He was developmentally right on track if not slightly advanced. He spoke early (that should have been a warning sign as the child rarely pauses for breath!), walked before his first birthday and rode a two-wheeler with no training wheels by his third birthday!
Not every child has all of Ryan's blessings. Ryan on his sixth birthday is a happy, loving child who is the light of our lives. There are many children around the world still waiting for their Forever Family. Some are in Foster homes, some in orphanages where it is difficult to receive the individual attention critical to a child's development. It is my sincere hope that the Russian and US embassies can reach an accord that allows the adoption program to resume. Yes, changes need to be made and oversight is very important on both ends. But every child deserves a chance to reach their full potential.
Be well and make magic wherever you go!
