Disney recently started offering special events just for Passholders. I personally think this is one of the best things to come along for passholders in awhile! I am glad to see Disney finally realizes they needed to do something special for us loyal guests. I have been lucky enough to be able to sign up for a few. I previously posted about the Tinkerbell movie, and the 2 American Idol Experiences. Today was the first special speaker event I was able to attend. There was one I missed in Animal Kingdom (think it was back in Oct). These events do fill up quickly so it is a matter of being on the passholder site at the right time to sign up. I just happened to have perfect timing and was able to get into this event and sign up for one at the end of the month on gorillas in the Animal Kingdom.
Today’s event was all about Muppets. I have to say that this was very cool since I feel like i grew up with the muppets.
Muppet shows and movies, Seasame Street, Fraggle Rock, and who could forget the Dark Crystal. The event started out with a cool walk backstage of Hollywood Studios. They took us back to a building with the title Animation on it. It was funny becasue it was a rather large building but not one I have ever noticed from inside the park, love that Disney magic! Of course no photos backstage and they asked for none during the event either, but did have a nice photo op at the end. Once seated in a little theater, Rolfe sang some funny songs to keep us entertained while we waited for everyone. The host of today’s event was Craig (i think was his name) he was a sort of behind the sceens guy of the muppets. He showed us a lot of clips of vintage muppets. Very cool to see how they got thier start – I had no idea it started with very short commercials. We also saw some of thier appearances on variety shows during the 60s and 70s. Then the special guest of the show was announced – Dave Goelz who is Gonzo www.muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Gonzo along with some other characters! Both men were very funny as they showed us some behind the sceens footage and then asnwerd some questions from the audience. Even Gonzo came out to answer some questions and then stuck around for the photo op!
If you are a Muppet fan and in the Orlando area between now and May 3 you should head over to The History Center in downtown Orlando www.thehistorycenter.org/exhibits/?art=current They have a special exhibit and lots of other events scheduled that look very cool too!
I really enjoyed this event and hope Disney has more stuff like this up thier sleeves!
